Emoji, dates and paste
A few small things that save time while you write.
Insert an emoji
Section titled “Insert an emoji”Type : and at least two letters of a name, such as :tada, then pick from the list. Colletta inserts the emoji
character itself, not a shortcode, so the file holds the emoji. How it looks depends on the app and device. Emoji suggestions don’t appear inside code, and
they turn off along with the slash menu when you turn off Slash menu and emoji in Editor settings.
Insert today’s date or the time
Section titled “Insert today’s date or the time”Type /today for the date, written as 2026-10-21, or /now for the date and time, written as 2026-10-21 14:30
(your local time, on a 24-hour clock).
For any other day, type @ and pick from Dates, or type a date such as @oct 30. See
Mentions and dates.
Paste from Word, Google Docs or a web page
Section titled “Paste from Word, Google Docs or a web page”Paste as usual and Colletta turns the formatting into markdown: headings, lists, links, tables, bold and italic all come along. Smart paste drops underline, colors, highlighting, superscript and subscript. To add highlighting, superscript or subscript afterward, use the syntax in Formatting.
To paste just the text, with no formatting at all, press Ctrl+Shift+V (Cmd+Shift+V).
Turn selected words into a link
Section titled “Turn selected words into a link”Copy a web address, select some words in your document, and paste. The words become a link,
[words](https://...), instead of being replaced by the address.
