Find, outline and folding
Tools for finding your way around a long document, and for seeing how long it has become.
Find and replace
Section titled “Find and replace”Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F) to find, or Ctrl+Alt+F (Cmd+Option+F) to find and replace. In the find bar, Enter goes to the next match and Shift+Enter to the previous one. From the text, Ctrl+G and Ctrl+Shift+G do the same. Escape closes the bar.
Three options narrow the search: Match case (Aa), Regular expression (.*) and Whole word (ab). Use Replace to change one match at a time, or Replace all.
See the outline
Section titled “See the outline”The outline lists the document’s headings; click one to jump to it. Open it with Outline in the document header, or from the More menu on smaller screens. To have it open with every document, turn on Show the outline in Editor settings.
Fold a section
Section titled “Fold a section”Click the arrow beside a heading to hide everything under it, and click again to show it. From the keyboard, use Ctrl+Alt+[ and Ctrl+Alt+] (Cmd+Option on a Mac). Folding only changes your own view; nobody else’s document folds.
Count words
Section titled “Count words”The word count under the text shows words, characters and reading time (at 230 words a minute). If you don’t want it, turn off Word count in Editor settings.
